Great Lakes E-Cycle
KEEPING THE DEADLY TOXINS OF ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE OUT OF OUR GREAT LAKES

Welcome!
My name is Daryl Mitiska, and I decided to start this company with one thing in mind: our environment. The fact that you took time to look us up shows we share this concern. We are an active green company who focuses on keepng the horrible toxins of E-waste out of our landfills (and ultimately out of Lake Erie) and other drainage basins. We recycle computers and any related equipment, televisions, video game systems and cartridges, and nearly ALL electronic devices. We guarantee any and all files are destroyed. Your computer's memory contains privileged information. Even if you have only entered this information once, it probably still exists. Destroying memory by shredding and incineration is a crucial step which helps keep your information and identification safe from thieves.
E-waste is the next large crisis we face as equipment becomes obsolete more rapidly. At Great Lakes E-cycle all pieces are disassembled, and all components are 100% recycled, with a full guarantee that nothing will end up in a landfill. We also guarantee 100% that no parts will be re-sold. Companies who re-sell parts may have no real regard for the environment. Up to 80% of the equipment is glass (containing lead), PVC, Vinyl, and Styrene. These parts are most commonly landfilled after all of the valuable parts are removed. We also prevent the shipment of our E-waste overseas to the developing world, where burning wiring and circuit boards to retrieve scrap metal is a very common practice. Our waste exists as a problem whether it is in our town or halfway across the globe.
Currently the U.S. alone produces 1.5 - 1.9 million tons of E -waste, with an estimated 35 million plus computers to be decommissioned within the next 4-5 years. A staggering fifty million (50,000,000) televisions are also expected to be discarded in the next couple of years as the FCC makes the switch to all digital broadcasting. This is truly a shame, as most of those televisions have the ability to be modified rather inexpensively. I blame the media, for creating a panic that all old TV's won't work next year. This is simply not true!
The average P.C. contains about 4 lbs of lead. An older television can contain up to 10 lbs of lead! Lead isn't the only toxin found in E-waste. A short list includes: mercury, bromated flame retardants, barium, chromium, beryllium (a carcinogen),and cadmium (another carcinogen). If the PVC your computer is covered with is incinerated, it produces HIGHLY TOXIC dioxins. Even the glass of which CRT tubes are composed of contains up to 25% lead. There is more mercury in a picture tube than in those compact fluorescents the media is making a big deal about. We cannot continue to ignore the problem, pretend it does not exist, or ship it overseas any more.
